His kunyah was Abū'l-Ḥasan. He was a preacher. He was Ḥanbalī. He was born in the year 480 AH. He listened to ḥadīth. He took lessons in fiqh. He delivered sermons. His sermons were very delicate and pleasant. In this regard, Ibn al-Jawzī praised him greatly and, according to what he narrated, once asked him about a ḥadīth concerning ṣifāt (attributes), but he did not address this topic and instead recited the following poem:
“The lost one, angry, refusing, said: O nafs (the lower self), you must accept this.
For the opposite cannot be conceived.
Because you are the one who makes obedience to it obligatory.
Do not be angry that you cannot separate from it.
Even if your cheeks turn away and incline to be angry, still do not be angry, be content.”
Ibn al-Jawzī reported that he said the following:
“Once I feared the caliph. In a dream someone said to me: ‘Write this down: With your sabr (patient endurance) confront the calamities of the time. Wait, hoping for the grace of the One who is One and Knower of all. Although the hardship of the time oppresses you, do not despair. Even if the arrow of the calamities of the time is directed at you, do not lose hope. There is an expansion that Almighty Allah will grant you amid these difficulties.
This expansion is hidden among understandings and imaginations. There are many who have escaped between the points of spears. There are many prey who have escaped the lion’s claws.”
Ṣadūllah b. Nasr died at the age of eighty-four in the month of Shaʿbān of that year and was buried next to the Zawrī khānqah. Later, he was transferred to the cemetery of Imām Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal.
