Sadrü'l-Kebīr Seyfeddīn Abū'l-ʿAbbās Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. Jāfir al-Baġdādī al-Sāmirī. He is the owner of the Sâmiriye endowment adjacent to al-Karūsiyya in Dimashq. That was his residence. He was buried there. And he endowed it as a dar al-ḥadīth (house of Prophetic traditions) and a khānqah (Sufi lodge). He migrated to Dimashq. For a while, he resided in this house there. It was previously known as the house of Ibn Kavvānī. It was entirely constructed of hewn stones; he was a person of abundant wealth and good morals. He was respected by the state dignitaries. His livelihood was pleasant. He had poetry containing lofty meanings and fine witticisms. He passed away on Monday, the eighteenth of the month of Shaʿbān of this year. In Baġdād, he had great prestige alongside the vizier Ibn Alkamī. He praised al-Muʿtaṣim. Muʿtaṣim also honored him by clothing him with a precious black khilʿa (robe of honor). Then, during the time of Nāṣir, the ruler of Ḥalab, he came to Dimashq. He gained esteem there as well. The state dignitaries, bearing enmity against him, reported him. He wrote a poem against them. The ruler then fined the state dignitaries who opposed him twenty thousand dinars. They showed respect to Sadrü'l-Kebīr, the founder of the Sâmiriye endowment. People used him as an intermediary to achieve their aims.
He has a qaṣīda (panegyric) praising the Prophet, the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him). Ḥāfiẓ Dimyāṭī transmitted some of his poems.
