Abū ʿAbdillāh Aḥmad b. Ḥusayn b. Aḥmad b. Maʿālī b. Manṣūr b. ʿAlī. He was a grammarian and was blind. He was from Mosul. He was known by the name Ibn Ḥabbāz. He engaged in the science of ʿArabiyya (Arabic language). He memorized works titled al-Mufaṣṣal, al-ʾIẓāḥ, at-Takmīl, al-ʾAruz, and al-Ḥisāb. He also memorized al-Mujmal on the subject of lughāt (lexicography) and other works. He belonged to the Shāfiʿī madhhab (legal school). He had many subtle points and anecdotes. He wrote beautiful poetry. He passed away at the age of fifty on the tenth of Rajab this year. May Almighty Allah have mercy on him.
