He is the commentator of the work entitled al-Maḥṣūl. His lineage is as follows: Muḥammad b. Maḥmūd b. Muḥammad b. ʿAbbād al-Sahnānī. He was an ʿālim (scholar). After the year 650 AH, he came to Dimashq (Damascus). He engaged in debates with the fuqahāʾ (jurists). His virtues became known everywhere. He listened to ḥadīth. He commented on al-Rāzī's work entitled al-Maḥṣūl. He classified the Qawāʿid (principles) concerning uṣūl al-fiqh (principles of jurisprudence), uṣūl al-dīn (principles of religion), manṭiq (logic), and ikhtilāf (disagreement). He had excellent knowledge of manṭiq, nahw (grammar), and adab (literature). He emigrated to Miṣr (Egypt). He taught at the Mašhad al-Ḥusayn, Mašhad al-Shāfiʿī, and other places. Students came to him from distant regions and lands to take lessons. He passed away in Kāhira (Cairo) at the age of seventy-two on the twentieth of Rajab of that year.
