He was the commander of the security forces in Dimashq. According to what Abū Shāma narrated, at the time of his death a snake came and tore his calves. In another report, it is related that the snake wrapped itself around Sayf al-Dīn's shroud, and people were unable to drive it away. Again, according to Abū Shāma, some people said about him: “Sayf al-Dīn b. Sabūrā was a Nusayrī, Rafīḍī, vile, and habitual drinker!” We ask Allāh to forgive his sins and cover him with His mercy.
