Shaykh ʿAdī b. Mūsāfir b. Ismāʿīl b. Mūsā b. Marwān b. Ḥasan b. Marwān al-Ḥakkārī. He is the shaykh of the ʿAdawiyya group. His origin is from the town of Baytūnār west of Dimashq. Later he came to Baghdad and met with Shaykh ʿAbd al-Qādir, Shaykh Ḥammād al-Dabbās, Shaykh Ukayl al-Munbījī, Abū’l-Wafāʾ al-Ḥulwānī, Abū’n-Najib al-Suhrawardī, and other notable figures. Then he withdrew from people and secluded himself in the mountains of Ḥakkārī. There he had a zawiya built for himself. The people of those regions became very attached to him and believed in him. Indeed, some became excessively attached to him. Some even accepted him as ilāh (a god) or as a partner in ilāh (shirk), which is a grievous belief that completely expels a person from the religion.
Shaykh ʿAdī b. Mūsāfir passed away in this year at the age of seventy in his own zawiya. May Allah have mercy on him.
