Ḥusayn b. Shuʿayb b. Muḥammad. He was the shaykh of the Shāfiʿīs in his time. He learned the science of jurisprudence (fiqh) from Abū Bakr al-Kaffāl. He wrote a commentary on the work titled Furūʿ by Ibn Ḥaddād. Before him, his own shaykh had also written a commentary on this work. Prior to his shaykh, Qāḍī Abū Ṭayyib al-Ṭabarī had also written a commentary on this work. Abū ʿAlī al-Sanjī wrote a major commentary on the book al-Talkhīṣ by Ibn Kās. He also authored a book titled al-Majmūʿ. al-Ghazālī made quotations from this work in his book al-Wasīṭ. Ibn Khallikān said: "The first person to combine the methodology of the Iranians and the Khurāsānīs was Abū ʿAlī al-Sanjī."
Shaykh Abū ʿAlī al-Sanjī passed away a few years after the year 430 of the Hijra.
