Sharaf al-Din Abu'l-Hasan ʿAli b. Shaykh imam scholar, erudite, memorizer (ḥāfiẓ), jurist (faqīh) Taqiyy al-Din Abu ʿAbdillah Muhammad b. Shaykh Abu'l-Hasan Ahmad b. ʿAbdullah b. ʿIsa b. Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Yunini. He was from Baalbek. He was older than his brother Shaykh Qutb al-Din b. Shaykh al-Faqih. He himself was born in the year 621 of the Hijra. His father read many hadiths to him. He himself also engaged in the science of hadith. He studied jurisprudence (fiqh). He was a person of much reverence, devout worship, and one who acted upon his knowledge. While he was in the library, a man came to him and struck him on the head with a stick, then stabbed him. Because of this, he lay ill for days. Then, on Thursday, the twenty-first of Ramadan, in Baalbek, he attained to Allah's mercy and was buried in the Bāb-i Batha Cemetery. Because he was a scholar, one who acted upon his knowledge, a memorizer of hadiths, a person to whom people would come and go, humble, of good conduct, and possessed of noble character (muruwwa), people were greatly grieved by his passing. May Allah envelop him in His mercy.
