Shaykh Shams al-Din al-Ayqi

He was known as Muḥammad b. Abū Bakr b. Muḥammad al-Fārisī al-Ayqī. He was one of the virtuous people who solved problems and made difficulties easy. He was especially skilled in solving problems related to fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), ḥadith (Prophetic tradition), logic, and philosophy. At one time, he served as Shaykh al-Shuyūkh (Chief Shaykh) in Egypt, and previously he had been a mudarris (teacher) of al-Ghazālī. He died on a Friday in the village of Mizza. He was buried on Saturday. People attended his funeral procession on foot. Among those who participated in the funeral was Qāḍī al-Quḍāt (Chief Judge) Imām al-Dīn al-Qazvīnī. His death coincided with the fourth day of the month of Ramaḍān that year. He was buried in the Ṣūfī Cemetery next to the grave of Shaykh Shams. A condolence gathering was held at the Sumaysāṭīyah khānqāh. A large number of people attended his funeral. He had established a place in the hearts of scholars and many others from various groups.
