Our Shaykh Afifüddīn al-ʿAmidī

Afifüddīn Isḥāq b. Yaḥyā b. Isḥāq b. Ibrāhīm b. Ismāʿīl. He was from Amid. Later, he settled in Dimashq. He belonged to the Ḥanafī madhhab. He was the shaykh of the Zāhiriyya Dār al-Ḥadīth. He was born in the year 640 AH. He heard ḥadīth from many communities. Among the shaykhs from whom he heard ḥadīth were Yūsuf b. Ḥalīl and Majd al-Dīn b. Taymiyya. Afifüddīn was a ḥadīth shaykh with a pleasant appearance, easy to listen to, and fond of riwāya (transmission). He possessed virtues. He passed away on the night of Monday, the twenty-second of Ramaḍān of that year. He was buried in the Qasyūn Cemetery. He was the superintendent of the Umayyad Mosque and the father of Fahreddīn, the army commander. One day before him, Ṣadr Muʿīn al-Dīn Yūsuf b. Zuġayb al-Raḥābī also passed away. This person was trustworthy and among the great merchants.
