When the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) consulted with the Companions (ṣaḥāba) about confronting the Quraysh caravan, Saʿd b. ʿUbāda said:
- O Messenger of God! By these words, it is as if you are referring to us!
According to the correct opinion, the Companion (ṣaḥāba) who said this to the Messenger of God was Saʿd b. Muʿādh. According to the well-known opinion, the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Asʿad b. ʿUbāda back to Medina while on the way. Some say he sent him back because he appointed him as governor of Medina, while others say he sent him back because he had been bitten by a snake.
