The genealogy of this figure is as follows: Shujaʿ b. Wahb b. Rabīʿa al-Asadī. He was an ally of the Banū ʿAbd Shams tribe. He became Muslim in the early period, emigrated (performed hijra), and participated in the Battle of Badr and subsequent expeditions. He was sent by the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) as an envoy to Ḥāris b. Abī Shamir al-Ghassānī; however, Ḥāris did not become Muslim, but Ḥāris's chamberlain, Sawī, did embrace Islam.
Shujaʿ b. Wahb was martyred in the Battle of Yamama when he was a little over forty years old. He was a tall, slender man with long arms.
