His kunyah (teknonym) is Abū'l-Qāsim al-Tabarānī. He was a great ḥadīth hafīẓ (memorizer) and the author of three muʿjams (lexicons) named al-Kabīr, al-Awsaṭ, and al-Ṣaghīr. Kitāb al-Sunna, Kitāb al-Musnad al-Shāmiyyīn, and other beneficial works belong to him. He lived 100 years. He died in Isfahan in this year. He was buried in the cemetery of Ḥummat al-Ṣaḥābī at the gate of Isfahan. Abū'l-Faraj Ibn al-Jawzī said thus.
Ibn Ḥallīkān said: “Abū'l-Qāsim al-Tabarānī studied and listened to ḥadīth from 1,000 ḥadīth masters. He died on a Saturday, two nights before the end of the month of Dhū al-Qaʿda in this year. There is also a weak report that he died in the month of Shawwāl of this year. He was born in the year 260 AH and died at the age of 100 in this year.”
