Suwayd b. Ghafla b. Awsaja b. ʿĀmir Abū Umayya al-Juʿfī al-Kūfī. He participated in the Battle of Yarmuk. He narrated hadith from a group of the Companions (ṣaḥāba). He was among the elders of the Muhadramūn (those who lived during both the pre-Islamic and Islamic periods). It is also said that he saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He was born in the same year as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He prayed together with him. According to a sound narration, he did not see the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). According to another narration, he was born two years after our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He lived for 120 years. It was never seen that he walked even a single day leaning on or supported by anything. In the eighty-first year of the Hijra, when he died, he married a virgin woman. Abū ʿUbayd and others have also stated this. There is also a weak narration that he died in the eighty-second year of the Hijra. Allah knows best the truth of the matter.
ʿAbdullāh b. Shaddād b. Hād
He was a devout, ascetic, and learned person. He has beautiful counsels and sayings. He narrated several hadith from the Companions (ṣaḥāba) and a group of the Tābiʿūn (the generation after the Companions).
