Shams al-Dīn Muḥammad, the Qāḍī al-Quḍāt of Tripoli

Shams al-Dīn Muḥammad b. ʿĪsā b. Maḥmūd was from Baalbek. He was known by the name Ibn Majd. He belonged to the Shāfiʿī madhhab. He pursued knowledge in his own town and advanced in many sciences. For a time, he resided in Dimashq and taught at the Qūṣīyya Madrasa and the Umayyad Mosque. He served as an imām at the Umm al-Ṣāliḥ Madrasa. Later, he was transferred to Tripoli as a qāḍī. He stayed there for four months. He died on the sixth of Ramaḍān. After his death, his son Taqiyy al-Dīn succeeded him. He too was a renowned and virtuous person. His term was not long. Eventually, he was dismissed from office and expelled from Tripoli.
