ʿUbeyde b. ʿAmr. It is also said that he was ʿUbeyde b. Qays b. ʿAmr al-Selmani al-Muradi, Abu ʿAmr, and that he was from Kufa. Selman is a branch of the Murad tribe. ʿUbeyde became Muslim during the lifetime of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He transmitted hadith from Ibn Masʿud, ʿAli, and Ibn al-Zubayr. A group among the Successors (tābiʿūn) also transmitted hadith from him. According to al-Shaʿbi, ʿUbeyde was the equal of Shurayḥ in matters of judgeship (qāḍī).
Ibn Numayr said: When Shurayḥ was unable to resolve a matter, he would ask ʿUbeyde about it and would follow the answer given by ʿUbeyde.
Many people have praised ʿUbeyde al-Selmani. He died in the seventy-second year of the Hijra. There are also weak reports that he died in the seventy-third or seventy-fourth year. Allah knows best.
It is said that in the seventy-second year of the Hijra, Musʿab b. al-Zubayr was also killed. Allah knows best. In this year, ʿAbd Allah b. Sāʾib b. Ṣayfī al-Makhzūmī also died. He was one of the Companions (ṣaḥāba) and transmitted hadith. He had recited some hadith to Ubayy b. Kaʿb. Mujāhid and others also recited hadith to him.
ʿAṭiyya b. Bishr
He was from Mazin, and was one of the Companions (ṣaḥāba). He transmitted hadith.
ʿUbeyde b. Nadīla
He was called by the kunya Abu Muʿāwiya. He was from the Fajāʾa tribe. He was from Kufa, and was known for goodness, beneficence, and righteousness. He died in Kufa in this year.
ʿAbd Allah b. Qays al-Raqiyyāt
He was from Quraysh, of the ʿĀmir tribe. He was among the poets. He praised Musʿab and Ibn Jaʿfar.
