Vaiz Ibn Shāhin

ʿUmar b. Aḥmad b. ʿUthmān b. Muḥammad b. ʿAyyūb b. Zazān. His kunyah (teknonym) is Abū Ḥafs. He is a preacher famous by this kunyah. He heard many ḥadīths. He transmitted ḥadīths from Bāghandī, Abū Bakr b. Abī Dāwūd, Bāghawī, Ibn Saʿīd, and some other masters. He was a trustworthy and ṣīqa (reliable) rāwī (narrator). He lived on the eastern side of Baghdad. He has many works. It is reported that he compiled 330 books. Among these works, there is a tafsīr (Qur'anic exegesis) of 1,000 juzʾ, a ḥadīth musnad (collection arranged by narrator) of 1,500 juzʾ, a history of 150 juzʾ, and a book on zuhd (asceticism) of 100 juzʾ. He passed away at the age of nearly ninety in the month of Dhū al-Ḥijjah of this year. May Allah have mercy on him.
