He was a tābiʿī (member of the generation following the Companions) of great stature. He possessed knowledge concerning the scriptures of previous communities. He resembled Kaʿb al-Aḥbār. He was a righteous person and devoted to worship.
Beautiful sayings, wisdoms, and admonitions are transmitted from him. We have narrated his biography at length in our book entitled "Takmil". Praise be to Allah.
According to the statement of Wāqidī, Wahb died in the city of Ṣanʿāʾ in the year 110 AH. According to another account, he died in the year 111 AH. There is also a weak report that he died in later years. Allah knows best. According to the claim of some, his grave is in the town of Asanī to the west of Basra, but I have not seen the source for this. Allah knows best.
