At the end of this day, that is, on the eighteenth of Ṣafar, Thursday, Qāḍī al-Quḍāt Walīyyuddīn Ibn Qāḍī al-Quḍāt Bahāʾ al-Dīn b. Abī'l-Baqāʾ began to rule as deputy in the ʿAdiliyatu'l-Kabīra Madrasah alongside Akdilquḍāt Shams al-Dīn al-ʿIzzī and Akdilquḍāt Badr al-Dīn b. Ḥuwayba, replacing Qāḍī al-Quḍāt Taj al-Dīn. Qāḍī al-Quḍāt Badr al-Dīn b. Abī'l-Fath was also a deputy qāḍī. However, in his appointment decree, he had been assigned to rule independently together with Qāḍī al-Quḍāt Taj al-Dīn.
On the twenty-second of Ṣafar, Monday, the deputy of the sultanate summoned the city's trustee, Emir Nāṣir al-Dīn b. ʿAwī, before him and punished him for certain crimes. For this reason, Ibn ʿAwī was lightly beaten with blows to the shoulders in the presence of the deputy, though not severely, and then dismissed. The deputy of the sultanate also summoned Emir ʿAlam al-Dīn Sulaymān before him. This person was one of the emirs commanding ten soldiers; Emir ʿAlam al-Dīn had presided over the divans in Damascus, served as the naẓīr (supervisor) of the cities of Jerusalem and Ḥalīl, and fulfilled other significant duties. His father, Shaykh Fahreddīn ʿUthmān b. Shaykh Ṣafiyyuddīn Abū'l-Qāsim al-Tamīmī al-Ḥanafī, was among the notables of the ṭābīlkhāna. The teaching posts at the ʾAmīniyya and Ḥākimiyya madrasas in Basra had been held by this family for over a hundred years. The deputy of the sultanate forcibly appointed Emir ʿAlam al-Dīn as the city's trustee—despite his unwillingness—and bestowed upon him the khilʿa (robe of honor). Previously, he had performed this duty commendably. The people admired him and appreciated him for his piety, trustworthiness, and chastity. They rejoiced greatly at his reappointment.
