He was a grammarian. He is the author of al-Fiyye and other grammatical works. He bore the epithet Zayn al-Dīn. He studied knowledge from al-Kindī and others. Afterwards, he went to Egypt. He passed away in Cairo at the beginning of the month of Dhu al-Ḥijjah that year. Shaykh Shihābuddīn Abū Shāma attended the funeral ceremony. He had also come to Egypt that year. It is narrated that Malik Kāmil also attended Yahya b. Mutî's funeral. Yahya was buried in al-Kurāfa, on the left side of the road leading to the tomb of al-Shāfiʿī, near the grave of al-Muzanī. May Allah have mercy on him.
