His kunyah is Abū'l-ʿAbbās. He is from Basra. Originally, he is from Najrān. He is the author of the work titled Makāmāt (spiritual stations). He was a poet, man of letters, virtuous, and possessed of eloquence. He was an authority in the Arabic language and literature, especially in poetry. One of his poems is as follows: "The song of the good-natured youth flows with delicacy. It reaches every ear without causing distress.
The gate of hearing never rejects that song. It comes to visit without permission."
