Yusuf b. ʿAbdullāh b. Bendar al-Dimashqī. He was a mudarris (professor) at the Nizāmiyya madrasa in Baghdad. He took fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) lessons from Asad al-Mihnī. He excelled in munāẓarāt (theological debates). He was an ardent supporter of the Ashʿarīs. In this year, that is, the 563rd year of the Hijra, he went as an envoy to Samla al-Turkmānī and died in the land of Samla.
