Zāhir b. Ṭāhir

Zāhir b. Ṭāhir b. Muḥammad Abū'l-Qāsim b. Abī ʿAbdurraḥmān b. Abī Bakr al-Sahāmī. He was a muhaddith (scholar of ḥadīth) who narrated many ḥadīth and traveled extensively to collect ḥadīth. He listened to and had many ḥadīth written down, organizing sessions at the Nishapur Mosque where he had ḥadīth recorded one thousand times. Abū Saʿd al-Samʿānī spoke against him, saying, "He used to neglect the prayers." Ibn al-Jawzī objected to al-Samʿānī, stating that Zāhir neglected the prayers due to illness. It is reported that because Zāhir was seriously ill, he often combined the prayers, and Allah knows best. He reached the age of eighty-five and passed away in the month of Rabīʿ al-Ākhir of that year in Nishapur, where he was buried in the Nishapur cemetery.
