**Ninth Article**

Regarding the new astronomy, it explains the nature (character) and number of the heavens:

"O beloved! It should be known that philosophers have disputed regarding the substance of the spheres (celestial bodies), namely, celestial mechanics. Those who adhere to the view of ancient astronomy say, as explained above, that the substance of ethereal celestial bodies and corporeal bodies is composed of volume, solidity, purity, and transparency; there is no increase, decrease, condensation, rarefaction, division, or combination in any way within the spheres, nor is there any violence, weakness, reversal, or pause in their movements, and they do not deviate from their orbits in any manner. Those who embrace the new view have removed the characteristic of volume and solidity attributed to bodies in the heavens, saying that the nature of the spheres is like water and soft-tempered, accepting division and integration. According to those who adopt this new view, the number of the heavens is accepted as three:

The first heaven consists of all stars and elements and is the assembly described above. The second heaven is the sphere of fixed stars that we see and observe. The third heaven; although the distance of the thickness of the sphere of fixed stars is vast, beyond it lies a great and sublime, boundless and infinite sphere surrounding the aforementioned sphere, which has been verified through certainty and knowledge, and this heaven is appointed as a place of rest for blessed souls.

It has been observed that the rules and precepts of new astronomy are in harmony with those of ancient astronomy and have been adopted by new scholars from five hundred years ago until today.

However, our purpose is to be a mirror to the human realm (body) placed to know the Creator, we suffice with writing and explaining this much knowledge so that it may cause reflection and purification through the beauties in His creations. To this end, we also incorporate sixteen *rubāʿīs* from our *Sa’adnama* to complete this section.

Following this, it has been deemed appropriate to draw figures to illuminate understanding of the subject.

**Rubāʿīs**

1-You created, O God, this wondrous place;

The spheres and elements, this sun and moon's grace.

"Then did His countenance become manifest," You said in the Quran,

O Divine One! "Show us things as they truly are." [101/a]

2-Spheres and elements, O heart, births and signs;

Bodies and natures, forms—know them all divine.

For the encompassing Wise Creator's art is complete,

So contemplate the structure of the universe with delight.

3-Stars revolve with the spheres each moment anew;

Influencing and blending, a wondrous view.

Even if four opposite natures should combine, dear soul,

From mineral to plant, animal, and human whole.

4-The truth reveals this world through the book of wisdom's light;

Spheres and elements—letters of divine might.

Compositions, births, and words of majesty so bright,

Understand the words of your Lord with much insight.

5-From the words of the Lord, may you grasp the meaning true;

Let no letter-bound gaze or quarrel ensue.

Blessed is he who understands things as they are,

Who remembers his Lord in all that he sees and hears.

6-O God! Let your desire not lead to worldly gain;

Release yourself, like waves upon the ocean's plain.

Look at these words of the Lord—these objects you see;

Understand them with delight, immerse yourself in their mystery.

7-A sea neither diminishes nor increases evermore;

Waves come and go, reaching its shore.

The world is like those waves, a lesson to explore;

No two moments remain the same forevermore.

😯 God! For God's sake, give away this worldly prize;

Forget it if you seek the heights in paradise.

Do not weary yourself with waves—find the ocean deep;

Understand not this transient world, but your Lord to keep.

9-O God! Seek Him within this fleeting world of ours;

Find life's true essence in death’s empowering powers.

"Die before you die," let this wisdom be known;

Before the world abandons you, make it your own.

10-Ah, if I could bind my tongue with fasting’s grace!

If intellect could read the world’s hidden face!

If the tongue could speak and hear what lies concealed in place!

If the soul could find its beloved embrace! Alas, alas!

11-Ah, if I could bind my tongue with silence deep!

If the tongue could speak, and I secrets keep!

If the soul could see the world’s mysteries to peep!

Love's embrace would be mine, oh so sweet.

12-I knew two worlds, then felt a blissful pride;

Left behind the laws of order, cast them aside.

But when I found unity of being, deep inside,

In the observance of order, joy did reside.

13-Always aware of one existence, I rejoice;

In the laws of order, I was once devoid of choice.

When I saw what I knew, amazement filled my voice;

At every level, obedient to command’s rejoice.

14-When I became a companion of unity of being true;

In the laws of order, I wandered astray anew.

When I tasted the delights of perception, I grew aware;

"With God," at every level, joy beyond compare.

15-I believe myself righteous with certainty and truth's embrace;

My verification is filled with unity’s grace.

At every level, when a different judgment takes its place;

If I observe the order, then heretical am I in this space.

16-Through the unity of the world, which is God’s manifestation;

That realm is beyond—this secret veiled in creation.

He who speaks of the secrets of the world is a fool so slight;

The one who preserves it is the absolute Lord, shining bright. [101/b]

a Mevlâ.

voluntaria, esa alma.

me volví ignorante.
