al-Baṣar is interpreted in three ways:
1. al-Baṣar is used in the sense of seeing with the qalb (the heart); as in the following verses:
Among them are those who look at you, but can you guide the blind—even though they do not possess basar (i.e., they do not perceive guidance with their hearts)? (Yūnus 10:43)
The blind and the baṣīr (i.e., the one who sees with the qalb through iman (faith): the believer) are not equal. (Fāṭir 35:19)
You see them looking at you, but they do not possess basar (i.e., they do not see with their hearts). (al-Aʿrāf 7:198)
2. al-Baṣar is used in the sense of seeing with the eyes; as in the following verses:
For that reason, We made him samīʿ, baṣīr (i.e., one who hears and sees with his eyes). (al-Insān 76:2)
Immediately, he became baṣīr (i.e., his eyes began to see). (Yūsuf 12:96)
Today your basar (i.e., your eyesight) is sharp. (Qāf 50:22)
3. With the word al-Baṣīr, what is meant is one who possesses basīra (insight) in terms of hujja (proof) or evidence; as in the following verse:
Yet I was baṣīr (i.e., I possessed the ability to present hujja, proof, in the world). (Ṭā-Hā 20:125)
