al-Baṭsh is interpreted in two ways:
1. al-Baṭsh is used in the sense of 'uqūba (punishment); as in the following verses:
And We had already warned them with Our baṭsh {that is, Our 'uqūba / Our punishment}. (al-Qamar 54:36)
The Day We will strike with the greatest baṭsh {that is, punish with the greatest punishment}... (al-Dukhān 44:16)
Indeed, the baṭsh of your Lord {that is, His ʿiqāb / His punishment, His retribution} is severe. (al-Burūj 85:12)
2. al-Baṭsh is used in the sense of strength; as in the following verses:
And how many a generation before them did We destroy who were stronger than them in baṭsh {that is, in strength}. (Qāf 50:36)
And We destroyed greater than them in baṭsh {that is, in strength}. (al-Zukhruf 43:8)
