al-Firār is interpreted in four ways:
1. al-Firār is used in the sense of fleeing; as in the following verses:
Say, "Fleeing will not benefit you if you should flee from death or killing. And then if [you did], you would not be given enjoyment [of life] except for a little." (al-Aḥzāb 33:16)
So I fled from you when I feared you. (al-Shuʿarāʾ 26:21)
2. al-Firār is used in the sense of dislike or aversion; as in the following verse:
Say, "Indeed, the death from which you flee will surely meet you." (al-Jumuʿa 62:8)
3. The word al-Firār is used in the sense of not paying attention, not turning to look, or disregarding; as in the following verse:
The Day when a man will flee from his brother... (ʿAbasa 80:34)
4. al-Firār is used in the sense of distancing oneself; as in the following verse:
But my invitation increased them not except in flight. (Nūḥ 71:6)
