al-Ḥusnā is interpreted in three senses:
1. By al-Ḥusnā, Paradise is meant; this is the case in the following verses:
For those who have done ihsan (ihsan: spiritual excellence, i.e., the muwaḥḥidūn—those who affirm tawhid), there will be al-ḥusnā (i.e., Paradise) and extra (i.e., to look upon the Face of Allah). (Yūnus 10:26)
So that He may reward those who do ihsan (i.e., spiritual excellence) with al-ḥusnā (i.e., Paradise). (al-Najm 53:31)
Is the reward for ihsan (i.e., for the people of tawhid) anything but ihsan (i.e., Paradise)?! (al-Raḥmān 55:60)
2. By al-Ḥusnā, sons are meant; as in the following verse:
Al-ḥusnā (i.e., sons) are theirs. (al-Naḥl 16:62)
3. By al-Ḥusnā, good (khayr) is meant; as in the following verses:
(They say,) "We only intended al-ḥusnā (i.e., good) by building that mosque [Masjid al-Dirār]." (al-Tawba 9:107)
We intended nothing but ihsan (i.e., good and reconciliation). (al-Nisāʾ 4:62)
