al-Lebs is interpreted in four senses:

1. The term yalbisūn means "they mix/confuse"; it carries this meaning in the following verses:

Do not mix {i.e., do not confuse} the truth with falsehood (telbis/lebs)! (al-Baqara 2:42)

Why do you mix {i.e., why do you confuse} the truth with falsehood (telbis/lebs)? (Āl ʿImrān 3:71)

...those who believe and do not mix (telbis/lebs) their iman (faith) with injustice {i.e., those who do not mix their iman with shirk (associating partners with God)}... (al-Anʿām 6:82)

2. The term al-libās means "to find tranquility / to attain calm"; it has this meaning in the following verses:

They {i.e., your wives} are a libās {i.e., a source of tranquility} for you, and you are a libās {i.e., a source of tranquility} for them. (al-Baqara 2:187)

It is He who made the night for you as a libās {i.e., a time of tranquility}. (al-Furqān 25:47)

We made the night a libās {i.e., a time of tranquility}. (al-Nabaʾ 78:10)

3. al-libās means "garment/clothing that is worn"; it has this meaning in the following verses:

We have bestowed upon you libās {i.e., clothing} to cover your private parts and as adornment. (al-Aʿrāf 7:26)

They will wear (lebs) garments of fine silk and brocade. (al-Dukhān 44:53)

4. By al-libās, righteous deeds are intended; it has this meaning in the following verse:

As for the libās of taqwa (God-consciousness) {i.e., righteous deeds}... (al-Aʿrāf 7:26)
