Ne'ā is interpreted in two ways:
1. Ne'ā is used in the sense of tabaʿuḍ (to withdraw, to keep away); as in the following verses:
He turns away [ne'ā] (that is, he withdraws). (al-Isrāʾ 17:83)
They both forbid (others) from it and themselves keep away from it [ne'ā]. (al-Anʿām 6:26)
2. Lā tanīyā; means weakness, slackness, or feebleness; as in the following verses:
Do not show slackness/weakness in My remembrance [lā tanīyā]. (Ṭā-Hā 20:42)
It would have weighed heavily [la tanūʾu] (that is, even a group possessing strength would have become feeble and unable to carry the keys to the doors of the houses containing Qārūn's treasures). (al-Qaṣaṣ 28:76)
