Zaile is interpreted in two ways:
1. Zallû is used in the sense of inclining / they inclined, as in the following verses:
Even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued to ascend through it {that is, if they entered through it / inclined towards it}... (al-Ḥijr 15:14)
If We willed, We could send down to them a sign from the heaven so their necks would remain humbled to it [fa-zallat]. (ash-Shuʿarāʾ 26:4)
2. Zaile is used in the sense of persisting, continuing, as in the following verses:
Look at your god to which you have been devoted [zalta] {that is, to which you have continued in worship / persisted in worship}. (Ṭā-Hā 20:97)
They said, "We worship idols and remain devoted to them" [fa-nazallu] {that is, we persist in being devoted to them: we continue in worship of them}. (ash-Shuʿarāʾ 26:71)
You would remain in wonder [fa-zaltum] {that is, you would be amazed and would continue in that state}. (al-Wāqiʿa 56:65)
His face becomes darkened with rage [zaile] {that is, it becomes dark and remains so}. (an-Naḥl 16:58)
