ʿAbd al-ʿAfūw is a person who forgives people greatly and punishes little. There is no one who has wronged him whom he has not forgiven. The Messenger of God (peace be upon him) said: "Allah is al-ʿAfūw (the Pardoner); He loves to pardon." (Ibn Mājah, Dua, II, 1265) Among the communities before you, there was a man who was called to account. He had no good except that he was lenient. He would command his children to pardon those in hardship. Then he (the Prophet) said: "We are more worthy of pardoning than he." So they pardoned. (al-ʿAjlūnī, 135; Kāshānī, 126)
ʿAbd al-ʿAfūw is the one whom Allah has tasked with guarding His limits. There is no one who has wronged him whom he has not forgiven. (Jāmiʿ, 12)
