ʿAbd al-Ḥafīẓ (Sufism Glossary)

ʿAbd al-Ḥafīẓ is the person whom Allah protects from all kinds of evil in their actions, words, states (ḥāl), thoughts, outward appearances (ẓāhir), and inner worlds (bāṭin). To such a person, Allah manifests Himself with the Name al-Ḥafīẓ. As a result, this person constantly exhibits the act of protecting Allah's friends (awliyāʾ). For example, it is said that for thirty years no evil thought occurred to his mind, and as long as he was with his companion, he paid no heed to (their behavior).
