ʿAbd al-Mujīb (Sufism Glossary)

ʿAbd al-Mujīb is the one who, upon hearing the command of Allah, "Follow the caller of Allah" (al-Aḥqāf 46:31), responds and submits to the invitation of the Real (al-Ḥaqq). Allah, in turn, responds to his supplication, manifesting Himself to him with the Name al-Mujīb (the Responsive). He responds to anyone among the servants who calls upon Him out of need, for this is among the responses Allah has made obligatory upon Himself. The verse, "And when My servants ask you concerning Me, indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided" (al-Baqara 2:186), speaks of Allah Most High's response to His servant. For He sees their answering His call as necessary for proximity (qurb, nearness) and for the witnessing faith (shuhūdī iman) mentioned in the phrase "and let them have iman (faith) in Me," in accordance with the ruling of tawhid (the oneness of God).
