ʿAbd al-Mutaʿālī is the one who, having gone to the utmost heights in matters of exaltedness, is distant from perceiving anything other than Allah. The servant who is the locus of manifestation of this Name is one who does not remain at any attained perfection (kamāl), but rather, with a lofty aspiration, seeks to ascend even higher. For such a person has abandoned the exaltedness of place and rank, and has witnessed the sacred, absolute (mutlaq), and true exaltedness that lies beyond all limitation, and in all matters of perfection, continually seeks that which is most exalted. Do you not see how, to the most exalted and noble of all creation in rank, it was addressed: Say, 'My Lord, increase me in knowledge.' (al-Kāshānī, 125; Jāmiʿ, 12; cf. al-Tāhā 20:114)
ʿAbd al-Mutakabbir is the one who, by submitting to the Real (al-Ḥaqq), has annihilated his arrogance. To such an extent that Allah's Majesty (Kibriyāʾ) has replaced his own arrogance. Thus, he manifests pride with the Real against everything other than Allah, and submits to none but Him. (al-Kāshānī, 110; Jāmiʿ, 7)
