ʿAbd al-Mudhıll is the person who is the locus of manifestation (maẓhar) of the attribute of izlāl (abasing) of Allah. By means of the subjugating power of the Real (al-Ḥaqq), he subdues the enemies whom Allah has abased, through the manifestation of Allah's Name al-Mudhıll (the Abaser) in himself. (Kāshānī, 113; Jāmiʿ, 8)
ʿAbd al-Nūr is the person upon whom Allah's Name al-Nūr (the Light) is manifested. He witnesses the meaning of the verse: 'Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth' (al-Nūr 24:35). It is evident that, in terms of existence and knowledge, everything is made manifest through light. He is the Light of the worlds. With that light, He grants hudā (guidance). As the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'O Allah, create a light for me!' (Suyūṭī, I, 57) (Kāshānī, 129; Jāmiʿ, 13)
