ʿAbd al-Wāris is the manifestation of the Name al-Wāris (the Inheritor). He is among the necessary elements of ʿAbd al-Bāqī. For, after he has become annihilated from his own nafs (the lower self) and remains through the baqāʾ (subsistence in God) of the Real, it is necessary that he inherit everything to which the Real appoints him as inheritor after his fanāʾ (annihilation), such as knowledge and dominion. Moreover, since all things are included in this, he also becomes the inheritor of the knowledge, maʿrifa (gnosis, experiential knowledge of God), and hudā (guidance) of the prophets. ʿAbd al-Wāsiʿ: ʿAbd al-Wāsiʿ is the one who expands everything in virtue and extent. Since he encompasses all the spiritual stations (maqāmāt), nothing can expand him further. He does not see anyone as the true possessor (ṣāḥib) except the one to whom he grants from his bounty. (Kāshānī, 118; Jāmiʿ, 10)
