ʿAbd al-Wadūd is the one whose love for Allah and His friends (awliyāʾ) has reached complete perfection (kamāl). Allah also loves him and instills his love into all creatures. Thus, except for the ignorant among mankind and jinn, all people love him. The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When Allah loves a servant, He calls Jibrīl and says: I have loved so-and-so, so love him! Then Jibrīl proclaims in the heavens: Allah has loved so-and-so, so love him! Thus, the inhabitants of the heavens also love him. Then that person is received with acceptance on earth.
