ʿAbd al-Raqīb is one who regards his Overseer (his Lord who watches over and protects him) as closer to himself than his own nafs (the lower self). He realizes this through the manifestation of the Name al-Raqīb, understanding that his nafs is transient and perishable. He never transgresses the limits set by Allah. When alone, no one observes these limits better than he does. When in the company of friends, he watches over them with Allah's murāqaba (divine watchfulness). (Kāshānī, 117; Jāmiʿ, 9)
