Praise be to the Lord of the worlds. May the most excellent blessings and the most perfect peace be upon our Master Muḥammad Muṣṭafā (peace and blessings be upon him), his family, and his Companions (ṣaḥāba).
Sufism (taṣawwuf) is the sole agent of noble character (akhlāq). It is the caller to adopting that noble character, adorning oneself with all virtues, casting away all evils, purifying the inner self from spiritual vices, and adorning oneself with every kind of virtue. Thus, Sufism (taṣawwuf) consists of the purification of the nafs (the lower self) and the refinement of character. In a noble hadith, our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I was only sent to perfect noble character." Sufism (taṣawwuf) is nothing but noble character and sound taste. When we deeply contemplate the state and conduct of Sufism (taṣawwuf), we see that it is a beautiful way and behavior based on the Book and the sunnah. Imām Junayd (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Our school is bound by the Book and the sunnah." He also said: "All paths are closed to people, except for those who follow the trace of our Prophet." He further said: "Whoever does not preserve the Qur'an and does not write down the hadith, he is not to be followed. For our knowledge is tied to the Book and the sunnah. In other words, our knowledge is confirmed by the hadiths of the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him)."
On this beautiful occasion, I extend my thanks to the shaykh, scholar, and virtuous Shaykh Hasan Aynī, who translated the book of my father, my master, my shaykh, and my leader, ʿAbd al-Qādir ʿĪsā. This book is a fine work drawn from the sunnah and the words of our great imams.
