ahyār (Sufism Glossary)

Ahyār (the most virtuous, the righteous) are people of basīra (spiritual insight), seriousness, and gayra (spiritual zeal). Seeing the paths of the heavens, they are not distracted by causes on earth. They hold fast to the rope of Allah, and do not attach importance to relationships with created beings. They have yaqīn (certainty) in Allah's verses (āyāt), see His path, and pay no heed to the whisperings of shayṭān (Satan), created beings, or the nafs (the lower self). If the nafs, shayṭān, or people attempt to cast any kind of whispering upon them, they respond with debate, struggle, and opposition. Society turns away from them, shayṭān withdraws, and the nafs is compelled to submit to them; thus, they remain upon the ṣirāṭ al-mustaqīm (the straight path). (Minlhāj, 55)
