The ʿArsh al-Ḥayāt (Throne of Life) is the throne of mashīʾa (divine will) and irāda (divine volition). It is on the same level as the dhāt (Divine Essence), and is the throne of huwiyya (Divine Ipseity). Allah says: "His Throne was upon the water" (al-Hūd 11:7). Allah attributed it to huwiyya and created it upon the water. For this reason, we say it is the Throne of Life.
