Ashāb al-kursī are the righteous walī (friends of God) whom Allah has befriended, and who themselves are friends of Allah. These are Allah's friends, and among them there are three groups: those who are (kāmil) (perfected), those who possess jalāl (majesty), and those who possess jamāl (beauty). Their counterparts in Hell are the people of the kursī who are friends of Satan. The friends of these are the ṭāghūt (false gods, tyrants). (Letāʾif, 130)
