Bāb-i abwāb (the gate of gates) means tawba (repentance). This is because the first gate through which the servant enters to draw near to Allah is tawba. (Kāshānī 35; Jāmiʿ, 78)

bādi / bawādi: Bādi is that which manifests in the qalb (the heart) of the servant according to his spiritual state at certain times. When the bādi of the Real (al-Ḥaqq) manifests, it effaces all other bādis not from the Real. Ibrāhīm Ḥawwās (may Allah have mercy on him) says: When the bādi of the Real appears in the qalb of the servant, it annihilates all other bādis. (Lumaʿ, 418)

bādi bilā bādi: Bādi bilā bādi refers to the spiritual states (aḥwāl), lights (anwār), and dhikr (remembrances of God) that manifest in the qalb of the people of maʿrifa (gnosis, experiential knowledge of God). When bādi is mentioned, it alludes to these. When bilā bādi is mentioned, it refers to the Mubdiʿ (the Originator) who manifests the bādis in the hearts. (Lumaʿ, 439)
