Bedene is a metaphor for the nafs (the lower self) that embarks upon the journey of spiritual wayfaring (sulūk), traversing the degrees of the Sufis and the stages of the sāliks (spiritual travelers). (Kāshānī, 36; Jāmiʿ, 78)

bedi (ayas): The orientation (tawajjuh) of the word bedīʿ (the Originator) is towards anyone who creates without precedent, and specifically towards the origination of the First Intellect, which is also the Pen. Its orientation is towards the origination of the letter hamza and its levels. Again, its orientation is towards the origination of two conditions from the degrees. Again, its orientation is towards the assistance and increase of the Divine Breath of the Essence. The reason for this increase is that Allah, Exalted is He, has said: "He is the bedīʿ (Originator) of the heavens and the earth" (al-Baqara 2:117). For both the heavens and the earth were created without precedent. The first thing Allah created is the intellect, that is, the Pen. The Pen is the first unprecedented creation to manifest from Allah, the first act. Everything created without precedent is called mubdaʿ, and the one who creates it without precedent is called Mubdiʿ.
If knowledge, as some have defined it, were merely the conception of the known thing, then this created thing would not be mubdaʿ. For the one who brings it into being by ibdāʿ (origination without precedent) and invention (icād), creates it according to and in conformity with a pre-existing model within himself. Thus, this is created from the exemplar present in the Essence of the Real (al-Ḥaqq). (Futūḥāt, II, 414)
