When He bestows grace and commands him to manifest in that maqām (spiritual station), he appears as a servant in his own nafs (the lower self), but as a master to those who look upon him. This is the adornment of the Lord and the robe bestowed upon him in relation to Him. (Futūḥāt, III, 134-135)
