It is a deception that comes from the enemy. These people speak of hope, generosity, and liberality, and with these they please their nafs (the lower self). Thus, their audacity toward sins increases, and they commit sins. Then, they suppose this to be hope (recā). (Riʿāya, 274) girre billah 291
The source of ightirār (delusion) is ḥusn al-ẓann al-qalb (the qalb’s [the heart’s] good opinion, good intention). The origin of the qalb’s good opinion, even while it is together with something Allah dislikes (believing that Allah will treat it well), is the lie of the nafs. (Ādāb, 72)
