Abū Yazīd (al-Bisṭāmī) said: I am not I, I am the I. For I am He, He am I, I am He, He.
The existence of the Real (ḥaqq) has shone forth
O my nafs (the lower self), O your own self
beware, do not deny Him
you will find the I in me
I am in myself
I am nothing at all
except for ihsan (spiritual excellence) and His existence
what appears to your eye are my traces
other than your own existence
nothing gives Him pleasure
the investigation of the likeness of anyone but me
