Fath-i ṣamadānī (the ṣamadānī opening) refers, in Sufism (taṣawwuf), to the annihilation (fanāʾ) of all that is finite, based on the saying of the Master of the Universe (the Messenger of God, peace be upon him): "Allah was, and there was nothing with Him. It is still so." Thus, it signifies the disappearance of every perishable thing. Allah says: "Everyone upon the earth will perish" (al-Raḥmān 55:26) (Jāmiʿ, 158).
