Furqān is the knowledge that clarifies and distinguishes between ḥaqq (the Real, Truth) and bāṭil (falsehood). The Qur'an is the concise (essential) ladun (divine, esoteric) knowledge that encompasses all ḥaqīqas (realities). (Kāshānī, 136; Jāmiʿ, 92)
Furqān, despite its various types and aspects, consists in the reality of the Names and Attributes. According to their realities, each Name and Attribute is distinguished from the other. Thus, the distinction within the Divine (al-Ḥaqq) in terms of the most beautiful Names and Attributes becomes manifest. For the Name al-Raḥīm (the Merciful) is different from al-Shadīd (the Severe), and the Name al-Munʿim (the Bestower of Blessings) is different from al-Muntaqim (the Avenger). Likewise, the Attribute of riḍā (contentment with God's decree) is different from the Attribute of ghaḍab (wrath). (al-Insān, I, 67)
